Water and Sanitation

Activities Towards Our Vision

The Foundation is keen on building resilience of communities against the adverse climate change impact through adaptation and mitigation strategies. This is done to contribute towards ecosystems sustenance and socio-economic benefits across all age cohorts residing in the arid and semi-arid zones, areas with Pockets of Poverty and Urban Informal Settlements of Kenya.

Hikma Foundation is where innovation starts, with methodologies and tools - by contributing towards environmental resilience through sustainable management of land, water, forest and human resources in order to realize the over-arching objective of promoting peace, access to equitable and quality education for sustainable development, water and sanitation and related ecosystem benefits accrued from serene environment.

Hikma has demonstrated this capacity during a one-year proof of concept at Kuno low-cost boarding primary school in Garissa County – Kenya. This was achieved through the development and application of the framework on NACONEK Integrated Water, Food and Energy Solutions for schools (NIWFESS). Hikma’s scientists are key advisors to the National Council for Nomadic Education in Kenya (NACONEK), which is a Semi-autonomous Government Agency within the Ministry of Education, State Department of Early Learning & Basic Education.
